He-Man had the Power Sword (or one half of it, anyway). It held the secrets to Castle Grayskull and enabled our hero to defend the universe against Skeletor.
Wonder Woman had the Lasso of Truth.
Frodo had the Ring of Power.
Beowulf had Hrunting and Nægling, his magical swords.
Fiction, myth, and legend give us a treasure trove of magical items. Things humans can pick up and gain power from. It’s seeped into our imaginations until we almost believe it.
I feel sad and frustrated whenever I hear someone say something like, “Ooh things are really tough right now. I can’t do that because Mercury is in retrograde.”
Or, “The full moon is making me crazy.”
Not because astrology – and magical weapons – are fiction; people can believe whatever they like. But because when a person says and believes something like that, they give their power away.
You and I can do whatever we want to do, whenever we want to do it. All we have to do is decide, then act.
Our moods are a choice. Once we find ourselves in a rage, or feeling sad (normal sad, not clinically sad), or angry, or frustrated, we have a choice. We can stay in that mood, or we can change it.
Sometimes it’s as easy as smiling. Walking through a door. Changing the scenery.
Business owners do this, too.
One of the most common excuses I hear for not writing a book (or creating a course or doing something else) is “I can’t do that” (translation: I WON’T do that) and “I don’t have time to do that” (translation: I won’t MAKE time to do it).
You might be super-pissed at me right now for writing this, and that’s okay. I’m okay with that, because I know it’s true.
I spent so many years telling myself I couldn’t do stuff, or didn’t have time to do stuff, as if I had no responsibility for my own life and business. As if there was someone or something else out there interfering.
If you want to do something, make space for it in your life.
You can do so, you know. You’re not enslaved. There are no magical swords or alignments of the stars that’ll stop you or help you. It’s down to you.
That’s scary, right? All the responsibility for your own life on your own shoulders? Damn right it is. It’s super-scary and I’m right there feeling scared with you.
But you know what? It’s also empowering. You have the power. YOU. You can change the things you want to change, if you choose to do so. Nobody else has the power to stop you.
Write that book.
Create that product.
By the power of Grayskull! Go out on a limb and take a risk that might just pay off.
